Robert Varich attended Moreland Schools as a youngster and is an active community member. The Mayor and San Jose City Council appointed him in 1993 to the San Jose Appeals Hearing Board. He served for 6 years, most recently as its Chairman. Robert was active in the Measure J campaign that benefited the Moreland Community and had served on the Measure J Bond Oversight Committee. Robert was appointed to the Moreland District Personnel Commission in 2001 and served as its Chairman. Robert was appointed to the Moreland School Board in May of 2004, replacing Francis Amlin who retired from the board. Robert was then elected in the 2004 Election, as well as 2008, 2012 and 2016 and continues to serve currently. Robert has been elected by the board to be Board President or Clerk for 7 of the 15 years he has served on the Moreland Board.
Robert has worked to make sure community members are heard and have a voice. Moreland has continued to be recognized for State and National Awards during his time on the board. The recognition is solid, Four Goldin Awards, Three Hoffman and a Magna award, a National Award given every year to an innovative School. The Moreland school awarded was Anderson Elementary. Robert has graduated from the Masters in Governance program of the California School Board Association. He has attended Conferences on education, CSBA and others. Robert is a continual learner and brings with him considerable business skills.
Robert has been active at the school level as well, serving as the Chair of the Walk-a-thon that raised $35,000 for the enrichment programs of Country Lane Elementary School.
Robert is married to Cyndi and they have two children, Kelli 22 and John 17. Kelli is a kindergarten teacher and John attends Prospect High School. They both have played soccer, baseball and softball and Robert has served as coach on several of their teams. Robert continues to volunteer with the Little League as an umpire and announcing Varsity Basketball games.
Robert worked for Alpha Beta Markets from 1979 to 1987 working in various capacities most recently as an Assistant Manager. Robert began his career with Allstate Insurance Co. in 1987 and currently owns three offices, 1125 Saratoga Avenue, 1313 N Milpitas Road in Milpitas and 1200 Pacific Avenue Santa Cruz Ca. He employs twelve people from the local area and continues to support Schools and local charities. Robert also co-founded the Trade Group Conference "MEGA Conference" in 2005. This conference focuses on best practices in the insurance industry and pulls together leaders nationwide.
